SABCH TRAIL WORKDAY VIDEOS
SABCH conducts a trail workday weekly in the Tellico and Ocoee
Ranger Districts of the Cherokee National Forest. These
workdays are led by Volunteer Trails Coordinator Ken Jones. Many
of the trails are in Wilderness areas and the trails are steep and
remote. Volunteers, mostly SABCH members, work on both horse and
hiking trails, including the Benton McKaye. US Forest Service
regulations prohibit the use of motorized equipment in Wilderness areas,
including chain saws, so all trail work must be accomplished by hand
tools such as crosscut saws, axes, loppers, Pulaskis, and swing blades.
The videos below are documentaries of some of the workdays.
SABCH is grateful to the the US Forest Service and the volunteers who
give so much of their time to keep these remote trails open and protect
them for future generations of hikers and horseback riders.
If you like to participate and give something back to our trail
system, see historical places, beautiful scenery, and enjoy the
friendship and camaraderie of hard work...plus gain a great feeling of
accomplishment... contact us!
